Then come as a guest to a Legion of Mary meeting! There’s no obligation!

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. It has been active in the United States since 1931, has been approved by the last 6 Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members, and praying, evangelizing and performing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
The St. Stanislaus Legion of Mary started in December 2014. The Legion consists of both active and auxiliary (praying at home) members. The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium (defined on the Legion of Mary website as “like a family with Mary as its Mother”). There are 4 praesidiums in the Jefferson City diocese, which include Wardsville, Jefferson City, Linn, Boonville and 3 prison praesidiums.

What does it do?

Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works might include parishioner visitation for those who need someone to talk to, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, giving out spiritual articles, like Rosaries and medals at parish events or to Confirmation students or school children, hosting public Rosaries, Nursing home visits, Pro-life sidewalk prayer warriors, taking Perpetual Adoration hours, leading the Rosary in church, attending funerals or wakes, transportation for those in need to Mass or doctor appointments, babysitting without pay, organizing prayer services, distribution of Catholic literature, volunteer work and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish.

How does it work?

Members meet once a week for prayer, discussion and sharing elements of their faith. The St. Stanislaus Legion of Mary currently meets on Monday mornings after Mass, approximately 8:30 a.m. Location—St. Stanislaus Parish Center across from Rectory. Meetings last approximately an hour.
